If you have a baby on the way you will probably start wondering about decorating their room in the near future. This is always a wonderful event to look forward to, and decorating their bedroom can help you prepare for your big day.
An essential item to have in the room will be a chest of drawers of some kind. Ideally you should opt for a reasonably large one because you will have plenty to put in it – nappies, clothing and plenty more besides. But what kind of chest of drawers should you buy?
There are plenty on the market and some of them are designed specifically for a nursery. But it is much more fun if you get something simpler and create something unique yourself instead.
If you decide to do this you need to opt for an unfinished wooden chest of drawers. You will then need to treat it with knotting treatment and give it an undercoat of paint before doing anything else. While you are doing this you can think about how you will finish it off – and you don’t need to be great at painting either! Remember this is a baby’s room, so you can choose simple shapes and colours to decorate it with.
Once the undercoat is dry you will probably want to add some pencil outlines to sketch on where the shapes and drawings will be. Another idea is to cut out some paper templates and draw around them. You can then paint inside the lines and it is much easier than painting freehand.
Another good idea is to put letters all over the chest of drawers. Letters and numbers – even if you stick to A, B, C and 1,2 and 3 – always look good and they fit in with the room of a young baby as they grow through their first year or two.
There are plenty of ideas you can use in this way. If you run out or you have trouble finding any to begin with, you can always use the internet to come up with some alternative suggestions. This is always a good idea because you literally have the world at your disposal. And when your baby finally comes along you will have a brand new and expertly painted chest of drawers to use. There certainly won’t be another one quite like it.
