A chest of drawers is a practical item that many of us have in our bedrooms. But it can also be a focal point if we want it to be – and one way we can make that happen is by choosing a colour that will really stand out among its surroundings.
But what about choosing a black chest of drawers? Will this provide you with the eye catching centrepiece you are looking for, or will it prove to be too dark?
A lot may depend on where in the room you place it. For instance if it is very near (or underneath) the window, you will have a large amount of natural light pouring onto it. This will mean it won’t appear too dark. If you hide it away in a dark corner though, it will appear even darker than it actually is and the corner of the room you have it in will feel darker as well. As such you can see the importance of looking closely at your surroundings to work out the best position for the chest of drawers you want.
It can also pay dividends to think about what else you have in your room. If you are thinking of buying all black furniture for your bedroom and it doesn’t get a lot of natural light, you are going to end up with a very dark room indeed. You can light it effectively at night of course, but during the day you might find it feels quite oppressive.
A lot will depend on the nature of the chest of drawers you decide to buy. Some of them benefit from having nice bright and light handles that lighten up the whole unit. In other cases the drawer fronts might be made from black gloss, which means you will get a certain amount of brightness and the light reflected back into the room.
Size is another point to consider. The bigger the unit is, the bigger the expanse of black will be in the room. Ask yourself what size unit you require and imagine how it would look in black.
In short make sure you think of all the options and pros and cons before you decide which chest of drawers to buy. Black ones can work superbly, but only with thought and in the right surroundings. You simply have to ask yourself whether you have the right room to use it in.
